250-metre oil tanker Pacific Empire ran aground in early Saturday morning near the Estonian, Aegna island on the way to Muuga Port.According to ERR, the tanker was empty at the time of the accident and was carrying only its own fuel.
The tanker that is registered in Hong Kong was freed by two towboats at 9 pm the same evening and was towed to an anchoring area in Muuga Port.
Inspection reveleaed that the tanker’s hull had suffered considerable damages and would need at least 90 tons of steel to repair.
Pacific Emprie had a crew of 24 people on board.
National Maritime Board is investigating the cause of the incident. According to authorities, the tanker did not pose any environmental danger.
